Story – a poem

Story

August 4-12, 2023

This day

    dawns—

the stretch and hope

    once more

of wide birth

  for the sacred act

of stepping out

      onto empty page

Call forth

  call back

    from century

    upon century past—

speed-travel to the beginning

    of earth

or at least

  the beginning of voice

    and word

Call upon the ancestors—

  and ask—

what story shall we bring—

  once long forgotten?

the first wiggling

  of life

    in deep water

the first to crawl

  onto land

cooled black

  after fire and mountain

rumble and roar

the first to grow

    feathers,

      to wing above

        new green

        new peak

and new river

the color of sky

  grows

smoky red

  purple

    finally crystal blue

and

    that round sister

in orbit—

  when did she arrive?

fly back

  and back

    and back

recall

  how old

    a tale this is—

the act

of sharing

of chanting

  Song

and Story

  into Being
